Craig McMaster was born in Greenock in 1970. He has always been fascinated and inspired by the natural world and picked up a camera in an attempt to capture and share this inspirations with others. A self taught photographer since his late teens, Craig has been working constantly to improve his skills and his portfolio of images. His portfolio of work is varied but as you’ll see from this website, the majority of images are black and white, produced using a large format (5″x4″).
He was first published in 2000 with his book ‘Greenock and the Firth of Clyde’ by Argyll Publishing. This was a collection of colour images, launched at the McLean Museum, Greenock . He subsequently specialised in black and white landscape photographs and published ‘Elements’ by Mercat Press (now Birlin). This was launched at the Edinburgh International Book Festival 2004 and was well received and was followed up by several events at various book stores, galleries and other festivals.
He has taken some time away from photography to learn the art of oil Painting and has now been involved with several mixed exhibitions, again he is self-taught. He mainly exhibits at the ‘Dancing Light’ gallery near Biggar and ‘Seagull Gallery’ Gourock.
He continues to build his collection of landscape photographs and you will see some new and exciting images on the website. He is currently working towards a new collection of The Ancient Pine Woods of Scotland, and will hopefully in the near future publish a follow up book to Elements!
I hope you will enjoy browsing his new website and if we can answer any questions regarding the images please contact us.
